WHO MAKES EVERY KUVRD KEFFIYEH

One Keffiyeh, Two Workshops

The fabric is woven in Sahab, Jordan, by our uncles at the family factory, on the looms our grandfather started. The hadab (the keffiyeh's fringe) is hand-tied in Amman by the women of the KUVRD Collective, who also do the finishing, quality control and tatreez embroidery.

Two workshops. One keffiyeh.

MORE THAN A WORKSHOP

A Community Space in Jabal Al Hussein

The KUVRD Collective's home in Jabal Al Hussein, Amman, is a creative and educational hub. It hosts workshops, artisan training, community gatherings and collaborative cultural activities.

It supports local artisans and entrepreneurs with access to resources, skill-sharing, and a safe environment for creative expression and economic participation in KUVRD's production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who actually makes KUVRD keffiyehs?

Two family operations in Jordan. The cloth is woven at the Golden Textile Factory in Sahab, run by the two sons of our grandfather, Jido Ahmed Al-Bulbul. The hadab, finishing, quality control and tatreez embroidery are done by the women of the KUVRD Collective, our own workshop in Jabal Al Hussein, Amman. Read more about our family's factory.

Is KUVRD Palestinian owned?

Yes. KUVRD was founded in 2018 by Hasan and Seevana Hawari, grandchildren of Jido Ahmed Al-Bulbul, a Palestinian weaver who was forced out of Jaffa in May 1948 and opened the Golden Textile Factory in Jericho, Palestine, in 1958. Three generations of the same family have made keffiyehs, and the family factory in Sahab, Jordan, still weaves every KUVRD keffiyeh.

Where are KUVRD keffiyehs made?

In Jordan, in two workshops. The cloth is woven in Sahab at our family's factory. The finishing, which covers the hand-tied hadab, quality control and tatreez, is done at the KUVRD Collective in Jabal Al Hussein, Amman.

Who are the artisans of the KUVRD Collective?

The KUVRD Collective is KUVRD's own workshop in Amman, Jordan, staffed by women artisans. 54 women have been employed across our workshops since we started. Through our training programme, 5 workshops have trained 98+ women, and 45 have transitioned into employment. The programme is supported by Alfanar Venture Philanthropy.

How does buying a keffiyeh help?

Every purchase supports the women who make it: the women of the Collective are employed by KUVRD directly. A set share of every sale also pays into the Karam fund, which co-funds our training workshops and emergency relief through our charity partners.
